Facilities, Course & Grounds Update
First, thank you to everyone who helped make our two-day Women's Member-Guest a tremendous success. We appreciate everyone's hard work and are excited to shift our focus back to several important improvement projects around the Club.
Facilities
For the first time in 12 months, our Facilities Team is fully staffed. Recruiting and retaining Team members in this department is challenging, as much of the work happens behind the scenes during early mornings and late nights. We're excited to have a full Team in place to continue improving the Club.
August 17
The tennis facilities will receive new windscreens featuring an updated texture and refreshed La Cumbre logo, giving the courts an elevated and more polished appearance.
August 24
The Tennis & Fitness Building will receive a fresh coat of paint. It's hard to believe our newest building is already 10 years old!
During this planned closure, we will also replace the pool area's hot water tanks and recirculating pumps to provide faster, more consistent hot water after your swim. Many of you have already noticed the improvement after we completed a similar upgrade in the Fitness Center last week.
Course & Grounds
This week we'll complete the final phase of the East Lawn project by installing the door separating the lawn from the Boardroom, along with several finishing touches, including plant enhancements, hedge work, and minor irrigation adjustments to complete the project.
Our next focus is the 13th Island Green. We'll be sodding the surrounds and seeding a bentgrass trial area to evaluate how different turf species establish and perform under our conditions. While completing this project, we'll also sod the rough along the left side of the 10th hole, reducing the existing mulch area and creating a cleaner, more playable finish.
Following the completion of the 13th Island Green, we'll begin overseeding heat/disease-affected fairway areas, including the entirety of the 8th and 18th fairways. This trial will utilize a bentgrass cultivar because it closely matches our Kikuyu in color, competes well within the existing turf, and performs exceptionally at lower mowing heights. Our goal is to improve turf density, playability, and ball roll while maintaining a consistent appearance throughout the course.
At the Turf Care Center, we're continuing to improve our workspace by cladding the interior walls with plywood and applying a fresh coat of white paint to create a brighter, cleaner, and more organized environment. We've also upgraded the building's electrical infrastructure to support our expanding fleet of electric equipment. As gas and diesel machines are gradually phased out, members will notice quieter operation, reduced emissions, and a cleaner environment around the golf course.

You'll also continue to see many smaller improvements throughout the course and Club facilities as we work to enhance both the member experience and our Team's efficiency.
Return of the Falcon
Santa Barbara bird specialists Rebecca McBride and her father, David L. Ross, have been extremely successful at managing coots and geese in our city. They have graciously dropped a few clients to make time to work at our club. Be sure to stop and say hello.

Celebrating Our Team
This week also marks the final day for our outstanding summer students, Spencer, an Economics major, and Ian, a Psychology major, as they return to college. Thank you both for your hard work and dedication this summer. We wish you continued success and look forward to seeing you again.
Finally, Friday, August 7, marked an incredible milestone for one of our own. Felix celebrated 46 years at La Cumbre Country Club. That is an extraordinary achievement and, quite possibly, a golf industry record. Please join us in congratulating Felix and thanking him for nearly five decades of outstanding service to our members and Club.

Thank you for all the positive feedback you have shared with our Team. Your support means a great deal to everyone who works so hard behind the scenes.
Have a wonderful week and enjoy another beautiful week in paradise!
Paul, Kellen, Mike, Eddy and our Dream Team
Golf Update
After a busy and successful week hosting our Women's Two-Day Member-Guest, we're looking forward to a fantastic week of open play on the golf course.
A huge thank you to all of our participants, guests, volunteers, and staff who helped make the event such a success. It was wonderful to see so many great rounds of golf, new friendships formed, and plenty of laughter and camaraderie throughout the tournament. The positive feedback from both members and guests made all of the hard work worthwhile, and we appreciate everyone who contributed to another memorable event at La Cumbre.
With the tournament now behind us, the golf course returns to a full schedule of open play, providing plenty of opportunities to enjoy the course, catch up with fellow members, and make the most of these beautiful summer days.
We're also excited to host the USGA Men's Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifier on Monday, August 17. This is a great opportunity to watch some of the region's top amateur golfers compete for a spot in the championship, and we encourage members to come out and enjoy the competition. Please note that, in accordance with USGA regulations, spectator carts will not be permitted during the qualifying round.
Any members interested in volunteering as ball spotters etc. please email mark@lacumbrecc.org
Looking ahead, we also have two excellent club fitting opportunities on the calendar:

Courtside Update
A huge congratulations to our 4.0 Ladies USTA team, I’d Hit That, on an outstanding performance at Sectionals last weekend! The team traveled to Seal Beach and Manhattan Beach, where they took on the best 4.0's in Southern California. It was a great start for the team to win both their matches on the opening day and clinching a playoff berth on the second. Making it through to the semi-finals before falling in a tight 2-3 loss. Finishing third out of 18 teams is a tremendous accomplishment and something our entire LC community can celebrate. Congratulations to the sectional lineup of Millie Tadewalt, Sheri Copus, Dawn Bokman, Bess Scribner, Macy McGinness, and Cassie Brungarth for representing us so well. We are incredibly proud of you!

Cardio Tennis continues to grow in popularity, and we’re excited to add another day to the schedule!
Beginning Friday, August 21, join Coach Santiago every Friday at 12 p.m. for a fun, high-energy workout on the court. Whether you’re a regular Cardio Tennis participant or ready to try it for the first time, we hope to see you there.

How to Sign Up for Group Fitness Classes
If you're new to our group fitness program or just need a refresher, here's a quick guide to booking classes through the La Cumbre Country Club app.
To register for a class:
- Open the La Cumbre Country Club app.
- Tap the Menu button and navigate to the Fitness section.
- Select Book a Fitness Class.
- Scroll to the date you're interested in and choose the class you'd like to attend.
- Follow the prompts to complete your registration.
Once you're signed up, you can view all of your upcoming classes by selecting My Reservations within the Fitness section. This is also where you can see your position on the waitlist if a class is full.
Need to cancel? Simply open the class under My Reservations and select Cancel.
Please note that most classes will not allow cancellations within 30–60 minutes of the start time. This is intentional, as it gives members on the waitlist enough time to be notified that a spot has become available.
We also recommend enabling notifications for the La Cumbre app so you'll receive updates if you've been moved from the waitlist into a class or if there are any changes to the schedule.
If you know you won't be able to attend, please cancel your reservation as early as possible. This helps us better prepare for class sizes and gives another member the opportunity to join.
Remember, class registration opens two weeks in advance, so be sure to plan ahead!
And if you haven't tried one of our classes yet, we'd love to have you experience the magic. There's something for everyone, and our instructors do an incredible job creating a welcoming environment for all fitness levels.
Kinotek Update
We're getting closer and closer to officially launching Kinotek, and we couldn't be more excited.
Our team is putting the finishing touches on implementation and training to ensure we're ready to provide the best possible experience from day one. Once launched, members will be able to schedule a personalized movement assessment that identifies mobility restrictions, balance deficits, posture concerns, and movement limitations.
The best part? Kinotek doesn't just tell you what's going on—it provides a personalized roadmap of exercises and corrective movements designed specifically for your body. Our goal is to help you better understand what your body needs to succeed and give you the confidence to move forward with a clear plan.
Stay tuned for more information on booking your assessment!
Weekly Move: The Squat
The squat is one of the most functional movements we perform every single day. Every time you sit down in a chair, stand up, get in and out of your car, or pick something up from the ground, you're performing a version of a squat.
Building strength in this movement helps improve leg strength, balance, bone health, and independence as we age. It also supports better performance on the golf course, the tennis court, and in everyday life.
This week's challenge is simple: perform 3 sets of 10 bodyweight squats two to three times this week. Focus on sitting your hips back, keeping your chest tall, and driving through your feet as you stand back up.
Remember, quality always beats quantity. Slow, controlled reps with good form will take you much further than rushing through them.
Have a wonderful week, and we'll see you in the Fitness Center!
With love,
Jarratt and the Fitness Team
